The 84th Academy Awards will take place in Los Angeles at the Kodak Theatre and broadcast live on television. The awards are the best known and most prestigious movie awards — the ceremony is seen via satellite in over 200 countries around the globe. This year has a crop of critically-acclaimed nominees up for Best Motion Picture, including Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, which has 11 nominations. Following closely behind with 10 nods is the black and white silent film The Artist, which has already won numerous awards including a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Comedy.
This year's Oscars show has already seen its share of controversy - last November, Eddie Murphy, who was confirmed to host the ceremony, dropped out when his creative partner and the show’s producer, Brett Ratner, stepped down after apologizing for making a gay slur. Billy Crystal, who has successfully hosted the show eight times, stepped in at the last minute to save the day. A favorite with attendees and viewers, he'll be sure to make the show the most entertaining ceremony in years. Not only is Billy back but make sure to watch for Uggie, the dog from The Artist, to make a special appearance!
