Road to the Oscars

For movie lovers and celebrity watchers alike, the Academy Awards are the highlight of the year. On January 24th, the official nominees were announced, followed by an exciting countdown towards the big night, which takes place at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 26th, 2011. This year will be the 84th Academy Awards.

Last year, the Best Picture award went to the critically-acclaimed and well-loved British movie The King’s Speech, which also won Best Director for Tom Hooper and Best Actor in a Leading Role for Colin Firth. Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Best Actress in a Supporting Role went to Christian Bale and Melissa Leo for their remarkable performances in The Fighter. Taking top honors for Best Actress was Natalie Portman for the ballet-themed drama Black Swan.
