Synopsis

When her husband, William Wirt Winchester, dies at the age of 43 from tuberculosis, leaving her the majority shareholder in the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, Sarah Winchester (Helen Mirren) is convinced her family is cursed. Her baby daughter Annie died years earlier from malnutrition and now Sarah believes she's being haunted by the ghosts of those killed by the Winchester Repeating Rifle.

Wanting to get a fresh start, Sarah moves west to California to be with family and begins construction on an enormous mansion, hoping to appease the spirits and keep them at bay. But when San Francisco psychiatrist Eric Price (Jason Clarke) is sent to the estate to evaluate her state of mind, he discovers that her obsession may not be so insane after all.

  • 3 stars "Little disappointed that there was not more action but non the less good!"
  • 4 stars "I liked this movie but there were some poorly scripted scenes. However, Helen Mirren and the other actors did a fine job. There were several really scary scenes that made the entire audience jump. All of the negative reviews below appear to have been written by the same person who seems to be doing this with all of the serious dramatic films that are released. I suspect that this person only likes action and comic book films with special effects."
  • 5 stars "Another great acting performance by a great actress, this movie was worth going to see, just to see a genus doing her craft. Forget the rest of the movie. Just go to see her preform, well done Helen!"
